Detailed Itinerary – Waqrapukara Tour Full Day
Day 1
🛬 Early Morning Pickup & Scenic Drive
Your adventure begins early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco between approximately 4:30 and 5:00 am.
We travel south of Cusco in comfortable tourist transportation 🚐, passing through beautiful Andean valleys, lagoons, and traditional farming communities while enjoying incredible mountain scenery.
🍳 Breakfast Stop in Cusipata
Along the way, we stop in the small town of Cusipata where you will enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast to prepare for the hike.
After breakfast, we continue toward the rural community near the trailhead where the trekking adventure begins.
🥾 Hike to Waqrapukara Archaeological Site
Upon arrival at the starting point, your guide will provide a short briefing before beginning the hike.
The trek is approximately 2 to 3 km and usually takes around 1.5 hours, depending on your pace. The trail gradually ascends through impressive Andean landscapes.
During the hike you may see:
🏔️ Mountain landscapes
🦙 Alpacas and llamas
🌿 Native plants
📸 Spectacular viewpoints
The route offers incredible views of valleys and the Apurímac Canyon.
🏛️ Guided Visit to Waqrapukara
Once you reach Waqrapukara, you will discover one of the most unique archaeological complexes near Cusco.
The name Waqrapukara means “Horn Fortress” due to the two large rock formations that resemble horns rising above the canyon.
Your guide will explain the history of the site, believed to have been used as:
• A ceremonial center
• A strategic fortress
• A religious sanctuary
You will then have free time to explore the ruins, walk through the terraces, and take amazing photos 📸.
This is one of the best viewpoints in the region and still relatively unknown compared to other Cusco attractions.
🍱 Lunch & Return to Cusco
After exploring the site, we hike back along the same trail to the starting point where transportation will be waiting.
On the return journey, we stop again in Cusipata to enjoy a buffet lunch or box lunch 🍽️.
Finally, we return to Cusco arriving around 6:00 pm.
