The journey begins high in the Andes near Cusco before descending through the spectacular cloud forest, an ecosystem filled with orchids, bromeliads, waterfalls, tropical vegetation, and exceptional birdlife. One of the most sought-after species in this area is the colorful Andean Cock-of-the-Rock.
As the landscape becomes warmer and more tropical, the experience continues toward Pilcopata and Atalaya, where a motorized boat journey along the Alto Madre de Dios River leads deeper into the Amazon environment.

Your Manu 3 Days Tour begins early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco at approximately 5:30 a.m..
We leave the city and travel through the eastern Andes, passing mountain valleys, agricultural communities, and changing highland landscapes as we make our way toward the Manu region.
Ninamarca Pre-Inca Chullpas
One of the first cultural stops is the archaeological site of Ninamarca, where pre-Inca funerary towers overlook the surrounding Andean countryside. Your guide will provide an introduction to the archaeological and cultural importance of the area before continuing toward Paucartambo.
Paucartambo
We continue to the historic town of Paucartambo, known for its traditional architecture, colonial bridge, narrow streets, and strong connection with Andean cultural traditions. After a short visit, the journey continues higher into the mountains toward the entrance to the Manu region.
Acjanaco & the Andes–Amazon Transition
The road climbs toward Acjanaco, reaching approximately 4,000 meters above sea level before beginning the dramatic descent toward the Amazon basin. From here, the environment changes rapidly from open Andean landscapes to dense mountain forest.
Exploring the Cloud Forest
We descend through the spectacular Manu Cloud Forest, stopping at selected viewpoints and forest areas for short walks and wildlife observation. This ecosystem is known for orchids, bromeliads, moss-covered trees, waterfalls, butterflies, monkeys, and an exceptional diversity of birds.
One of our main wildlife objectives is the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock. Sightings depend entirely on natural conditions, so wildlife can never be guaranteed.
Arrival in the Pilcopata Area
In the late afternoon, we reach the lower jungle and continue to our lodge in the Pilcopata area. After settling into your accommodation, enjoy dinner and the sounds of the surrounding rainforest.

Pilcopata – Atalaya – Alto Madre de Dios River – Machuwasi Lake
After breakfast at the lodge, we continue through the tropical foothills toward the river port of Atalaya.
The journey offers more opportunities to observe tropical vegetation, agricultural areas, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife along the route.
Atalaya River Port
Upon arrival at Atalaya, we board a motorized Amazon boat and begin navigating along the Alto Madre de Dios River. During the boat journey, keep watch along the riverbanks for tropical birds, turtles, monkeys, and other wildlife. Sightings vary according to season, weather, water level, and natural animal activity.
Arrival at the Jungle Lodge
We reach our jungle lodge and have time to settle in before enjoying lunch. The lodge serves as the base for our afternoon rainforest activities.
Machuwasi Lake
In the afternoon, we travel to Machuwasi Lake, a peaceful Amazonian oxbow lake surrounded by tropical vegetation. We explore the lake on a traditional wooden or balsa-style raft, moving quietly across the water while searching for wildlife. Species frequently associated with this habitat include hoatzins, herons, kingfishers, monkeys, reptiles, caimans, and occasionally capybaras, although all wildlife observations depend on natural conditions.
Optional Night Walk
After sunset, an optional guided night walk may be offered depending on weather, trail conditions, and the lodge schedule. The rainforest changes completely after dark, offering opportunities to observe frogs, insects, spiders, nocturnal birds, and other small jungle species.
After the activity, return to the lodge for dinner and your second night in the Amazon.

The final day begins very early with a boat excursion toward a local parrot clay lick.
Parrot Clay Lick
From an appropriate observation point, we wait quietly for parrots and parakeets that may arrive at the mineral-rich riverbank during the morning. The number of birds and level of activity vary naturally according to weather, season, river conditions, food availability, and wildlife behavior.
After the wildlife observation, we return to the lodge for breakfast and prepare for the journey back to Cusco.
Boat Return to Atalaya
We navigate back along the Alto Madre de Dios River to Atalaya, enjoying one final opportunity to observe rainforest scenery and wildlife from the boat.
Return Through the Cloud Forest
At Atalaya, our tourist transportation will be waiting to begin the long return journey toward Cusco. We travel once again through Pilcopata and the cloud forest, stopping for lunch along the route. Depending on timing and operating conditions, additional short observation or interpretation stops may be made during the return journey.
