Maras, Moray & Salt Mines Half - Day Tour

Pickup in Cusco

Your Maras Moray and Salt Mines Tour begins in the morning with pickup from your hotel or a previously coordinated meeting point in Cusco between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

Once the group is ready, you will leave Cusco by tourist transportation and travel across the Andean highlands toward the first cultural stop of the morning. Along the way, enjoy views of agricultural fields, mountain landscapes, and traditional communities.

Chinchero – Andean Culture & Textile Traditions

The first stop takes you to Chinchero, a traditional Andean community recognized for its Inca heritage and strong textile traditions.

Visit a local textile center where artisans demonstrate ancestral techniques for preparing wool, producing natural dyes from plants and other local materials, and creating colorful woven textiles using traditional methods.

The experience also provides an introduction to the archaeological and historical importance of Chinchero and the cultural continuity that remains visible in the community today.

Moray Archaeological Site

Continue toward Moray, one of the most unusual archaeological complexes in the Cusco region.

The site is characterized by large concentric terraces built at different levels inside natural depressions. During the guided visit, learn about the theories connecting Moray with Inca agricultural experimentation, crop adaptation, and the sophisticated knowledge the Incas developed about their environment.

You will also have time to appreciate the surrounding Andean landscape and take photographs before continuing toward Maras.

Maras Salt Mines

The final major visit is the extraordinary Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of small salt ponds create one of the most distinctive landscapes in the region.

Fed by naturally salty water, the ponds continue to be managed by local families. Your guide will explain how the water is distributed through the terraces, how evaporation produces the salt, and how this traditional activity continues to form part of the local economy.

From the designated visitor areas, enjoy panoramic views of the salt terraces and time for photographs before preparing for the return journey.

Return to Cusco

After completing the Maras visit, board the tourist transportation for the drive back to Cusco.

Arrival is normally expected between approximately 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., with final drop-off near the historic center. Exact timing may vary according to traffic, group pace, and operating conditions.
