Early Hotel Pickup in Cusco

Your Rainbow Mountain Full Day Tour begins before sunrise with pickup from your hotel or a coordinated meeting point in Cusco at approximately 4:30 a.m.

Once the group is ready, travel south through the Andean countryside toward Cusipata. The early road journey passes agricultural areas, traditional communities, and changing highland landscapes.

Breakfast in Cusipata

Upon reaching Cusipata, stop for an included breakfast before continuing toward the Rainbow Mountain trailhead.

This is an important opportunity to eat, hydrate, and prepare for the high-altitude hike ahead.

Journey to the Rainbow Mountain Trailhead

After breakfast, continue by tourist transportation toward the starting point of the hike.

As the vehicle climbs higher into the Andes, the scenery becomes increasingly remote, with open grasslands, grazing alpacas and llamas, and views toward the surrounding mountain range.

Hike to Rainbow Mountain

At the trailhead, your guide will provide essential information before beginning the ascent toward Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca).

The uphill hike normally takes approximately 1 to 1½ hours, depending on individual pace, weather, trail conditions, and how your body responds to the altitude.

The trail crosses high-Andean terrain where you may observe llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, native birds, and local communities surrounded by broad mountain landscapes.

Rainbow Mountain Viewpoint – 5,036 m

Reach the main Rainbow Mountain viewpoint at approximately 5,036 meters (16,522 ft) above sea level.

Here you will have time to admire the naturally colored mineral layers of Vinicunca, take photographs, and enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding Andes.

When conditions are clear, the snow-covered Ausangate Mountain can also be seen dominating the horizon.

Your guide will provide information about the landscape, local environment, and cultural significance of the surrounding mountains before beginning the descent.

Descent to the Trailhead

After enjoying the viewpoint, begin the walk back toward the starting point.

The descent is generally faster than the ascent, although travelers should continue walking carefully because of the altitude and uneven terrain.

Once everyone reaches the trailhead, board the tourist transportation and return toward Cusipata.

Lunch in Cusipata

Enjoy an included lunch in Cusipata after completing the hike.

This provides time to rest and recover before beginning the road journey back to Cusco.

Return to Cusco

After lunch, continue by tourist transportation toward Cusco.

Arrival is expected at approximately 5:30 p.m., although the exact time may vary according to traffic, weather, road conditions, and the pace of the group.
