| Overview - 7 Lakes of Ausangate

The 7 Lakes of Ausangate Full Day Tour takes you from Cusco to Pacchanta for a full-day hike through one of the highest and most remote mountain landscapes in the region.

After an early departure from Cusco, the journey continues toward the base of the Ausangate massif. From Pacchanta, the trail follows a circuit connecting seven high-Andean lakes surrounded by open valleys, wetlands, rocky slopes, grazing alpacas and llamas, and snow-covered mountains.

The main challenge of this tour is the altitude rather than technical terrain. The trail includes gradual climbs, uneven sections, and several hours of walking, so previous acclimatization in Cusco is strongly recommended.

Breakfast and lunch are served in Pacchanta. After completing the hike, you will also have time to visit the community’s natural hot springs before returning to Cusco.

This tour is a good choice for acclimatized travelers who enjoy hiking, mountain landscapes, and full-day experiences away from the city.

Detailed Itinerary – 7 Lakes of Ausangate Full Day Tour

Day 1: 7 Lagoons of Ausangate Full Day Tour

Hotel pick-up takes place between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. from selected hotels and locations in Cusco. Once the group is complete, we begin the drive toward the Ausangate region.

The journey to Pacchanta takes approximately three hours. Short stops may be made along the route for restroom use and to allow travelers to stretch before reaching the hiking area.

Upon arrival in Pacchanta, breakfast will be served. Your guide will then provide a short briefing about the route, altitude, walking pace, and safety recommendations. Personal items that are not needed during the hike may remain inside the vehicle.

We begin the hike from Pacchanta, following a mountain circuit that connects the seven lakes. The trail crosses open puna landscapes with views of the Ausangate massif, glacial valleys, high-altitude wetlands, and areas where local families raise alpacas and llamas.

The group will make stops at different points of the route for explanations, photographs, hydration, and short rests. The guide will maintain a steady pace suitable for high-altitude walking.

After completing the circuit, we return to Pacchanta for lunch. You will then have approximately 45 minutes to one hour to rest or enter the natural hot springs. The entrance ticket to the hot springs is paid separately.

In the afternoon, we begin the return journey to Cusco. Arrival is expected at approximately 6:30 p.m., although the exact time may vary depending on traffic, weather, and the group’s walking pace.
