Unlike a traditional trekking route, the Inca Jungle Trail connects several different adventure activities while traveling from the high Andes into the warm cloud forest and tropical valleys of the Cusco region.
The journey begins at Abra Málaga, approximately 4,350 meters (14,272 ft), where an exciting downhill mountain-bike section descends from cold mountain landscapes toward Santa María. During the following days, the route continues through coffee, coca, banana, and tropical fruit-growing areas, local communities, waterfalls, rivers, and historic pathways in the high jungle.
Adventure activities form an essential part of the experience. The standard program includes mountain biking, professionally supervised rafting and ziplining, while the Cocalmayo Hot Springs provide an opportunity to relax after a long day of trekking.
The route eventually reaches Hidroelectrica, where travelers continue on foot through the tropical valley toward Aguas Calientes. After spending the final night in Machu Picchu Pueblo, the journey concludes with an official entrance ticket and a professionally guided visit to Machu Picchu.

Early Pickup in Cusco
Your Inca Jungle Trail 4 Days adventure begins with pickup from your hotel or coordinated accommodation in Cusco at approximately 5:30 a.m..
Travel by tourist transportation toward Ollantaytambo and continue into the mountains toward Abra Málaga. There will be an opportunity to stop for breakfast along the way if you have not eaten before departure.
Breakfast on Day 1 is not included.
Abra Málaga – 4,350 m
Reach Abra Málaga at approximately 4,350 meters (14,272 ft), the highest point of the journey and the starting location for the mountain-biking experience.
Before beginning, the professional adventure team will provide a safety briefing and prepare your mountain bike, helmet, gloves, and protective equipment.
Downhill Mountain Biking
Begin an exciting downhill ride of approximately 3 to 3½ hours, covering around 55 km (34 mi).
The route provides one of the most dramatic environmental transitions of the entire tour as cold Andean landscapes gradually change into warmer cloud forest, waterfalls, valleys, and tropical vegetation.
Several controlled stops are made along the route to check equipment, rest, hydrate, and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
Santa María – Lunch & Accommodation
Arrive in Santa María in the warmer jungle region and enjoy an included lunch.
Afterward, check into your accommodation and prepare for the afternoon adventure.
White-Water Rafting
In the afternoon, continue with a professionally supervised rafting experience on the river near Santa María.
The activity generally involves Class III–IV rapids, depending on current river conditions. Professional rafting guides provide the necessary safety equipment and operational instructions before entering the water.
Rafting is included in this package but remains subject to river level, weather conditions, and the safety assessment of the rafting team. If conditions are considered unsafe, the activity may be modified or cancelled.
Night in Santa María
Return to your accommodation after the adventure, enjoy dinner, and spend the first night in Santa María.

The trail passes through coffee, coca, banana, cacao, and tropical fruit-growing areas while your guide explains local agriculture and the relationship between the communities and the surrounding landscape.
Local Culture & Plantations
During the hike, there may be opportunities to visit local families, learn about traditional coffee production, observe native plants, and taste locally produced products according to the day’s operating schedule.
The route provides impressive views across valleys, rivers, mountains, and dense subtropical vegetation.
Lunch Along the Route
Stop at a local restaurant or family-operated establishment for an included lunch and time to recover before continuing toward Santa Teresa.
Cocalmayo Hot Springs
Later in the afternoon, arrive in the Santa Teresa area and visit the famous Cocalmayo Hot Springs.
After the long trekking day, you will have the opportunity to relax in the thermal pools surrounded by tropical mountain scenery.
Entrance to Cocalmayo is not included in the standard tour price and is paid separately.
Santa Teresa
Continue to Santa Teresa, check into your accommodation, and enjoy dinner before resting for the following day’s zipline and journey to Aguas Calientes.

Breakfast & Adventure Preparation
Begin the morning with breakfast in Santa Teresa and prepare for another of the signature activities of the Inca Jungle experience.
Zipline Adventure
Transfer to the zipline base and meet the professional instructors who will provide your safety briefing and protective equipment.
The zipline experience lasts approximately 2 hours and includes a circuit of cables and a suspension bridge according to the configuration operated on your departure date.
Enjoy spectacular views of the tropical valley and surrounding mountains while completing the supervised adventure course.
Transfer to Hidroelectrica
After the zipline experience, continue by ground transportation toward Hidroelectrica.
The transfer normally takes approximately one hour depending on road and traffic conditions.
Lunch at Hidroelectrica
Enjoy an included lunch in the Hidroelectrica area before beginning the final trekking section toward Machu Picchu Pueblo.
Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes
Follow the railway corridor for approximately 11 km, a relatively gradual walk that normally takes around 2½ to 3 hours.
The route follows the Urubamba River through dense tropical vegetation with mountain views surrounding the valley.
Optional Short Train
Travelers who prefer not to complete the Hidroelectrica–Aguas Calientes walk may request the short railway service when available.

Machu Picchu Guided Visit – Return to Cusco
Early Morning in Aguas Calientes
Begin the final day with breakfast at your hotel and prepare for the highlight of the journey: Machu Picchu.
Your departure time from Aguas Calientes will depend on the official entrance schedule printed on your Machu Picchu ticket.
Option 1 – Walk to Machu Picchu
Travelers who prefer to hike can walk from Aguas Calientes toward the Puente Ruinas control point and continue uphill along the pedestrian stairs toward the Machu Picchu entrance.
The uphill section normally requires approximately one hour depending on individual pace and conditions.
Option 2 – Shuttle Bus
For a more comfortable ascent, travelers may purchase the shuttle bus between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu.
The shuttle bus is not included in the standard package and can be purchased separately.
Guided Machu Picchu Visit
Enter Machu Picchu with your professional guide and follow the official circuit and route assigned to your ticket.
The guided visit normally lasts approximately 2 to 2½ hours.
We prioritize Circuit 2 – Route 2-A or 2-B when availability allows. If Circuit 2 is sold out, the best available compatible route will be secured according to the inventory available when your booking is confirmed.
Because every route provides access to different areas of the archaeological site, individual monuments such as Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, or other sectors cannot be guaranteed unless they form part of the official route assigned to your ticket.
Optional Mountain Tickets
Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain require separate advance tickets. Their entrance times must be compatible with your standard Machu Picchu visit and return schedule.
Return Option 1 – Hidroelectrica
Travelers using the economical return option must descend to Aguas Calientes and complete the approximately 2½ to 3 hour walk back toward Hidroelectrica.
The scheduled tourist transportation normally departs Hidroelectrica at approximately 2:30 p.m..
Important:
The Hidroelectrica return requires an early Machu Picchu entrance. Your confirmed schedule must leave enough time to complete the archaeological visit, return to Aguas Calientes, walk to Hidroelectrica, and arrive before the vehicle departure.
Return Option 2 – Tourist Train
Travelers choosing the train package return to Aguas Calientes and board the confirmed tourist train toward Ollantaytambo.
The standard return is normally Expedition by PeruRail, Voyager by Inca Rail, or a similar tourist-category service according to railway availability.
Upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, continue by tourist transportation to Cusco.
